Gustavo Ten Hoever

Gustavo Ten Hoever was born in Uruguay and attended photography school in Montevideo, Uruguay, before moving to New York in 1986. He currently resides in Paris. After an eye opener experience at the United Nations Earth summit in Rio de Janeiro during the summer of 1992, he started chronicling the indigenous people of the brazilian rainforest, and hold his first photo exhibit, in New York : Full Moon People. Since then, the artist has traveled continuously and exhibited globally, with shows in New York, Geneva, Zurich, Paris, London, Connecticut and Gstaad. His work features in publications, including L'Insensé , I-D Magazine, French Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, and The New Yorker.

The artist approaches the land and its inhabitants with a striking and rare sensitivity, and the resulting images reveal Ten Hoever's spiritual quest to capture the essence of a place, a person, or a moment through compositions, which are distinguished by an unaffected interaction of nature and space, beings and objects. Through his lens, we are offered a view of nature that is at once beautiful and strange.The artist reminds us of the raw beauty of nature and its power to literally and figuratively overwhelm us. Ten Hoever works through a broad range of photographic styles and genre, and his pictures are significantly influenced by literature and poetry. In the end, it is the calm and dreamy nature of his images that affect viewers most”.
